Highly Resistant Hoses for the Transport of Chemicals and Solvents
“We have a solution for everything.” – With this statement, manufacturers of basic chemicals wryly express that many everyday products could not be manufactured without solvents. At the same time, robust vessels and reliable connecting hoses are required to successfully process reaction mixtures. The differing chemical, mechanical, and physical conditions of the substances and solvents used require tailor-made solvent hoses that remain resistant across wide temperature, pH, or pressure ranges.
Numerous companies from laboratory and biotechnology, the chemical industry – particularly the mineral oil industry and process chemistry – as well as the food industry and pharmaceutical sector rely on high-quality hoses to transport their solvents. The Reichelt Chemietechnik range includes hose systems and solvent hoses made of various fluorinated plastics that meet specific requirements for stability, strength, and safety.
Tailor-Made Solvent Hoses Made of Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)
In laboratories and industrial operations, high-performance fluoropolymer hoses can be used almost universally. They are highly resistant to nearly all organic and inorganic liquids and gases. PTFE hoses do not react with acids, alkalis, or solvents of any kind; among the most commonly used solvents worldwide are alcohols such as ethanol or propanol, ketones such as acetone, and highly volatile ethers. In the presence of strongly oxidising media, however, chemical resistance decreases. For such applications, preliminary testing and consultation with the hose experts at Reichelt Chemietechnik are recommended. Physiologically, PTFE is harmless and non-toxic and can therefore also be used as a food-grade tubing in food production. More detailed information on the chemical and physical properties of the material polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) can be found in our glossary.
PTFE solvent hoses are characterised by:
- very high chemical resistance;
exception: fluorine compounds and molten alkali metals at elevated temperatures
- low permeability to gases
- thermal resistance: these solvent hoses are suitable for continuous use up to +260 °C (short-term up to +280 °C)
- anti-adhesive surfaces
- carbon-filled solvent hoses exhibit antistatic properties and can be used in explosion-protection areas
- FDA and BfR certification
The PTFE Hose Portfolio
The PTFE hose portfolio of Reichelt Chemietechnik includes
- suction and pressure hoses
- analysis hoses
- heated hoses for transporting liquid viscous or molten solutions without temperature loss
- high-pressure hoses
- gas hoses
- chemical hoses, also available in coloured or antistatic versions
- corrugated hoses with excellent bending radius and high tensile strength
Corrosion-Resistant Solvent Hoses Made of Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF)
Polyvinylidene fluoride belongs to the group of polyhalogen olefins. Due to its good chemical resistance, PVDF (also marketed as KYNAR® PVDF) provides protection against corrosion. It is therefore used as a coating in chemical plants against aggressive solvents, and is also widely used as an inert packaging material in the food and medical technology sectors. These properties also make PVDF an excellent thermoplastic material for solvent hoses and seals, particularly under cleanroom conditions. More detailed information on solvent hoses made of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) can be found in our glossary.
PVDF hoses feature:
- very high chemical resistance to organic and inorganic media across all application areas; exceptions: fuming sulphuric acid, hot concentrated bases and alkalis such as dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), dimethylformamide (DMF), and some strongly basic amines
- high mechanical strength and dimensional stability
- resistance to UV and gamma radiation
- thermal resistance from −40 °C to +150 °C
- no toxicity

Highly Resistant Solvent Hoses Made of Fluoroelastomer (FPM/FKM)
Fluoroelastomer, also known under the trade name Viton®, has been on the market since 1958. This synthetic rubber is primarily used in the construction of machinery and chemical plants. Components and solvent hoses made of fluoroelastomer can be used under extreme conditions, as the material is heat-resistant, elastic, and highly chemically resistant, particularly to aliphatic, aromatic, and halogen-substituted hydrocarbons, fuels, acids, alcohols, oils, and hydraulic fluids.
This makes FKM rubber ideally suited as a material for pump hoses. For example, delivery hoses for peristaltic hose pumps are available in many dimensions and different elasticities (Shore hardness A 55°, 62°, 64°). In areas such as diagnostics and analytics, measuring devices pump liquid and gaseous solvents through extremely fine delivery hoses. Durable lines made of fluoroelastomer are also found in medical technology and healthcare, as well as in biotechnology and the food industry. More detailed information on fluoroelastomer plastics can be found in our glossary.
The Reichelt Chemietechnik portfolio of fluoroelastomer hoses includes solvent hoses distinguished by the following properties:
- chemical resistance to hydrocarbons and oils, chlorinated solvents, oxidising agents, as well as many acids and alkalis
- high resistance to ageing, weathering, and ozone
- dimensional stability and very high mechanical strength
- Shore hardnesses A 55°, 62°, 64°, 75°
- thermal resistance up to +200 °C (short-term up to +250 °C)
- low flammability (fire class UL 94 V0)
