EPDM has a number of attributes that make the material so popular. EPDM tubing is resistant to most acids and alkalis as well as to polar solutions. Depending on the type concerned, the corresponding EPDM tubes and hoses are generally rated for temperature ranges from -40 °C to +155 °C.

Suction and delivery hoses
The EPDM antistatic chemical suction and delivery lines represent a special specification. They come with a special feature by which the inner and outer layer are electrically conductive (R < 10⁶ ohms Ω). At the same time they are vacuum-resistant, namely to 99.9 % at 20 bar. The antistatic suction lines offer the highest antistatic rubber quality. They withstand antifreeze agents as well as hot water and, as chemical hoses, provide excellent resistance to alkalis and acids. The working temperature is -35 °C to +95 °C; short-term loading up to +120 °C is likewise possible.
Steam hoses
Steam and hot water hoses form a particular group. Here the working temperature can be as high as +164 °C, the maximum operating pressure being 7 bar at +164 °C. These lines serve to convey hot media such as hot water or steam.
Beverage hoses
EPDM assemblies are also available for the food industry, in the form of beverage hoses. These are designed as double-jacket hoses and are used to convey fat-free foodstuffs, fruit juices, mineral water and alcoholic beverages. Their maximum operating pressure is 12 bar at +20 °C. The vacuum resistance is 50 % for inside diameters of 13 mm to 60 mm, while for an inside diameter of 65 mm it is 40 %.
Bellows hoses
These bellows assemblies are equipped with connection adapters, the inside diameter of the adapters being optionally between 20 mm and 48 mm. The flexible bellows elements are manufactured without an insert. They are highly flexible and display excellent weather-resistant behaviour. The maximum operating pressure is 2 bar referred to +20 °C.
Paint spray hoses
A further speciality are EPDM rubber hoses used as paint spray lines. These chemical hoses are flexible and at the same time rank among the light-duty pressure lines. They are suitable for conveying spirit, nitroacrylic and epoxy resin paints as well as esters, ketones and aromatics. They are fitted with a synthetic textile insert and are nevertheless absolutely smooth both inside and out.
EPDM hoses with glass-fibre braiding
In the case of industrial hoses made of EPDM with a glass-fibre cover, the bursting pressure is 60 bar at +25 °C and the maximum operating pressure 20 bar at +20 °C. This type is used preferentially in cooling water technology as well as in thermal process engineering. The outer cover is sheathed with a highly heat-resistant glass-fibre braid.
Radiator hoses
EPDM is likewise processed into radiator hoses, which are used in plant construction for operating technology, in heating installation, in refrigeration technology and in chemical engineering. These chemical hoses are absolutely resistant to corrosion inhibitors, alkalis and acids as well as polar solutions. The inner core consists of smooth EPDM, the outer cover of cloth-impression CR (chloroprene rubber). The maximum operating pressure is 4 bar at +20 °C. The temperature range is -30 °C to +130 °C.
Heat exchanger tubing
EPDM heat exchanger tube is used for heating, cooling and temperature control of reaction columns in chromatography as well as for controlling the temperature of round-bottom flasks in laboratory technology. With a Shore A hardness of 65° in accordance with DIN 53505 it is remarkably soft and is therefore easy to handle when wound around flasks and columns. The temperature range of this rubber tube is -60 °C to +160 °C. The maximum operating pressure is 0.8 bar at +20 °C.
