Specialized Hoses for Transporting Mineral Oils

The chemical and physical properties of the media to be conveyed largely determine the requirements for the hose material used. When used as a mineral oil hose, high resistance to non-polar aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons is essential. Based on this, suitable materials are selected to ensure safe conveyance of mineral oil products. Accordingly, the extensive range includes numerous oil-resistant hoses, including versions with increased temperature and pressure resistance, designs as oil-resistant rubber hose, as well as oil-resistant PVC hose and oil hoses for a wide variety of applications.

Mineral oil hoses are available in the following materials:

  • TYGON®
  • PVC (polyvinyl chloride)
  • PUR (polyurethane)
  • FPM (fluoroelastomer)
  • NBR (acrylonitrile butadiene rubber, nitrile rubber)
  • PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene)
  • HDPE (polyethylene, rigid, high density)
  • PEEK (polyether ether ketone)
  • PP (polypropylene)

The last-mentioned materials – HDPE, PEEK and PP – are among the specialized solutions in the field of oil-resistant tubing and are used primarily in highly specialized industrial processes.

Acrylonitrile Butadiene Rubber (NBR): Elastic and Robust

NBR, i.e. acrylonitrile butadiene rubber, is among the most frequently used materials for mineral oil hoses – and for good reason: this elastomer is not only extremely resistant to non-polar organic solvents, but also particularly temperature-resistant in the range from –30 °C to +120 °C. Thanks to its excellent media resistance, acrylonitrile butadiene rubber is preferred for the manufacture of oil-resistant rubber hoses. An overview of the full range of more than 28 different NBR hoses can be found here.

NBR Double-Jacket Hoses for Mineral Oils and Fuels

Double-Jacket Hoses for High Requirements

When high pressure resistance is required in addition to chemical resistance, oil-resistant products with a double-jacket design are used. These models consist of an oil-resistant inner tube, two textile reinforcements for pressure stabilization and a robust outer cover made of chloroprene-based elastomer. This allows operating pressures of up to 60 bar and makes them suitable for industrial applications with increased loads. The double-jacket construction ensures dimensional stability even under vacuum conditions – supported by an additional steel wire spiral. This means these oil-resistant fabric-reinforced products can also be used safely under negative pressure down to 800 mbar. Depending on the type, the temperature range is between –40 °C and +100 °C; short-term exposure up to +120 °C is even possible without impairing the mineral oil pressure hose. Whether as a suction line or pressure line: these oil-resistant models offer a reliable combination of flexibility, abrasion resistance and temperature stability. An overview of all double-jacket hoses in the RCT range can be found via this link.

The NBR double-jacket hot goods hose, when used as a mineral oil hose, is in turn not designed for excessively high pressure loads. Here, a maximum operating pressure of 8 bar should be applied to ensure operational safety. This double-jacket model, made of acrylonitrile butadiene rubber and chloroprene rubber, is designed for robustness. With high flexibility and good abrasion resistance, it shows remarkable temperature stability up to +180 °C, and short-term up to +220 °C. It provides excellent mineral oil resistance across the entire stated temperature range.

The NBR high-pressure double-jacket hose – textile braid – is resistant at room temperature to mineral oil- and glycol-based liquids, fuels, lubricants, engine oils, diesel fuels, vegetable and animal oils, silicones, diluted acids and bases. The outer cover made of chlorosulfonated polyethylene is characterized by good abrasion resistance, heat resistance, high flame retardancy, as well as excellent ozone, ageing and weather resistance. Its temperature range from -40 to +125 °C, short-term up to +140 °C, enables use as a hot water hose, but it is also used as a fuel hose. Due to its design, operating pressures of up to 145 bar can be applied depending on the diameter. This places the product among the high-pressure hoses.

Even higher pressure stability is offered only by the NBR high-pressure double-jacket hose – steel wire braid. Except for the use of a steel wire braid instead of a textile braid, the technical properties are similar. The variant reinforced with steel braid can withstand peak pressures of up to 400 bar. Production and specification comply with DIN EN 853, DIN 20021, SAE100 R1AT (1SE) and SAE100 R2AT (2SE).

Chemical Hoses Made of NBR

The NBR industrial and chemical hose is characterized by excellent rubber-elastic properties and remarkable mechanical resilience. This is a black solid-material hose which, like many other acrylonitrile butadiene rubber products, is preferably used for transporting fuels and oils. With a Shore hardness A of 70° (in accordance with DIN 53505), a maximum operating pressure between 4.5 and 7 bar and a temperature range from -30 °C to +110 °C, this low-pressure model is suitable for almost any conceivable application. It is among the most versatile mineral oil hoses in the entire Reichelt portfolio.

The black NBR chemical hose shows excellent mechanical rubber-elastic properties, even at extreme bending radii. Combined with very good abrasion resistance and very good heat resistance, this oil-resistant mineral oil hose is a durable alternative for transporting aggressive chemical substances. Use is easily possible in a temperature range from -20 to +100 °C. With internal diameters from 3 to 25 mm, this oil-resistant chemical hose is available in more than 50 versions.

A rigid and extremely robust chemical hose is the oil-resistant NBR/PVC suction and pressure universal chemical hose. The body is constructed from an NBR/PVC compound and an embedded steel wire spiral. This design allows a maximum operating pressure of 5 to 8 bar at +20 °C, depending on which of the four sizes is considered. The mineral oil hose is also vacuum-resistant up to 0.8 bar (at +20 °C).

The oil-resistant NBR Antista tanker and chemical hose is among the fuel and petrol tubes. This product is used as a tanker hose, as a fuel station hose at the pump or in process engineering as a mineral oil hose. The NBR/SBR compound forming the outer surface is electrically conductive (R <106 Ohm) and therefore equipped with antistatic properties. The oil-resistant material also features excellent abrasion resistance as well as ageing and weather resistance, and can be used even at temperatures below zero (-50 to +70 °C). Due to the robust construction, it offers vacuum resistance up to 800 mbar and pressure resistance (maximum operating pressure) of up to 10 bar.

Reaching the Destination Under Pressure, Mineral Oil on the Move

Universally applicable in process, chemical and production engineering, the NBR industrial suction and pressure hose is a valued oil-resistant mineral oil hose for transporting organic liquids of all kinds. Both the chemical resistance (solvents, paints, water- and dispersion-based paints, mineral oil products, alcohols, aldehydes, esters and ketones) and the good ageing and weather resistance characterize this pressure hose. The inner tube (acrylonitrile butadiene rubber) is electrically conductive, as is the outer layer (NBR-PVC special compound), to prevent electrostatic charging. The integrated steel spiral and a textile braid ensure both pressure and vacuum stability with an operating pressure from -0.9 to 16 bar. Between -20 °C and +80 °C, and short-term up to +100 °C, there is no risk of material fatigue or degradation. Ten different internal diameters from 9 to 100 mm provide the right scale for every application.

An oil hose that is pressure-stable up to 20 bar and almost indestructible is the NBR low-pressure hose – metallic. The galvanized metal cover wraps around the acrylonitrile butadiene rubber material like armour and provides optimal protection against kinking, crushing and clamping. The inner tube is resistant at room temperature to mineral oil- and glycol-based liquids, lubricants, vegetable and animal oils, silicones, diluted acids and bases, compressed air and, of course, cooling water. Eight different diameters are in stock at RCT. A modification of this model is the acrylonitrile butadiene rubber low-pressure hose – metallic, with reinforcement. Reinforced by the textile layer, this fuel hose can handle maximum operating pressures of up to 30 bar.

The NBR paint spray hose is a low-pressure hose with small nominal diameters. In particular, suitability for alkyd resin paints, dispersion paints, spirit varnishes and polyester varnishes should be noted here. Since many paints and varnishes are highly flammable, this paint spray hose has been equipped with antistatic properties (conductivity inside and outside, R <106Ohm). By using a textile braid, a maximum operating pressure of 25 bar at +20 °C can be applied.

The NBR/CSM high-pressure hose is a nitrile tube for liquid media based on mineral oil and glycol, mineral and vegetable lubricants, compressed air, cooling water, engine oils, HD oils, diesel fuels and more. Pressure stability up to 145 bar is achieved by two or three special textile braids in the material. The pressure stability is tested and the mineral oil hose therefore complies with DIN EN 854 and DIN 20021. It is available in 19 different internal diameters from 4.8 to 50.8 mm. Further high-pressure hoses can be found in the online shop.

Oil- and Fuel-Specific Hoses

RCT Online offers more than 28 different antistatic hoses. The versions suitable as mineral oil hoses are described here. The NBR suction and pressure oil and petrol hose – antistatic is designed for maximum pressures of 10 bar (at +20 °C) for applications in process, operational or chemical engineering. It is resistant to mineral oil products with a maximum aromatic content of 50% and can therefore also be used to convey biodiesel. By integrating a steel wire spiral into the material, vacuum stability up to 800 mbar is ensured. Here too, only the inner tube is made of acrylonitrile butadiene rubber. The outer layer is made of abrasion-resistant chloroprene rubber, which has high flame resistance. The material is temperature-stable between -20 °C and +85 °C and also tolerates short-term exposure up to +110 °C. The NBR suction and pressure oil and petrol hose – antistatic is available in four internal diameters from 25 to 50 mm and is equipped with antistatic properties with a discharge resistance of <106Ohm.

The NBR oil and petrol pressure hose – antistatic is a nitrile hose designed for pressures of 25 bar (at +20 °C). It is used to convey mineral oil products with a maximum aromatic content of up to 50%. The material is characterized by excellent abrasion resistance as well as ageing, weather and ozone resistance. The inner tube consists of nitrile butadiene rubber, whereas the outer cover is made of an NBR/SBR compound. The operating temperature range is specified as -40 °C to +80 °C. It is naturally equipped with antistatic properties to prevent spark formation. A discharge resistance of <106Ohm reliably prevents this. A further development of this version is the acrylonitrile butadiene rubber oil and petrol pressure hose with self-extinguishing outer cover. In its properties it is very similar to the NBR oil and petrol pressure hose antistatic (temperature range, pressure stability), but the outer layer has been treated so that the material self-extinguishes in the event of fire. Certification (in accordance with SAE J 1527: 2004-A1 R1; ISO 7840: 2004-A1 CE; DIP 128405/MI/1 0474 R.I.N.A) has been carried out. It is particularly suitable for transporting unleaded fuel and petrol as well as E5 and biodiesel.

The NBR fuel hoses in accordance with DIN 73379, Type B, are low-pressure hoses developed for pressures in the range of 15 bar (at +20 °C) in engine manufacturing, automotive engineering and process engineering. Resistance to common fuels is, of course, ensured. In addition, conveying lubricants, animal oils, cooling water, and also diluted acids and alkalis is possible. Temperatures between -40 °C and +90 °C, short-term up to +120 °C, are tolerated by the drum pump hose without issue. In line with the name, it naturally meets the requirements in accordance with DIN 73379 March 1982 Type: B. RCT offers twelve sizes in lengths of either 5 or 10 m.

Finally, a mineral oil hose should be presented that withstands mineral oil products with a maximum aromatic content of up to 60% as well as biodiesel and E10. This is the acrylonitrile butadiene rubber fuel dispenser hose – antistatic. The antistatic design (copper strands in the cover) effectively prevents the build-up of static voltage and reliably prevents sparking. The provisions of EN 1360 - 2005 Type 1 and TRbF131, Part 2 § 5.5 are, of course, met. At temperatures from -25 to +55 °C, pumping processes with this fuel dispenser hose can be carried out safely up to 16 bar.

FKM or FPM: Transporting Mineral Oils and Fuels Using Fluoroelastomer Hoses

The designation fluoroelastomer with the technical abbreviation FPM or FKM is used as a collective term for the large group of fluorinated, rubber-like polymers, all of which are based on 1,1-difluoroethylene CF2=CH2 as one of the monomeric components. The other suitable components differ in their chemical nature, so the common term fluoroelastomer does not describe a clearly defined product. What all fluoroelastomers have in common, however, is high to very high chemical stability against reactive media such as acids and alkalis. This is an effect of the high fluorine content in the material. In addition to fluoroelastomer tubing, there is also other fluoropolymer tubing, including rigid plastics such as PTFE, PFA or PVDF.

Chemically Resistant FPM Hose Products

Fluoroelastomer mineral oil hoses are used in two different applications: as chemical hose and as pump hose. The chemical variants from Reichelt are characterized above all by their flexibility and, as the name suggests, by their chemical resistance.

Such rubber hoses made of soft fluoroelastomer are available in three versions with different hardness levels:

  • High Flexible 60 with a Shore hardness A of 60°
  • High Flexible 62 with a Shore hardness A of 62°
  • High Flexible 75 with a Shore hardness A of 75°

The corresponding operating temperatures are specified as -20 °C to +200 °C; short-term exposure up to +250 °C is also possible for the oil-resistant variants. They are resistant to hydrocarbons, mineral, vegetable and animal oils, aromatic and chlorinated solvents as well as many acids and alkalis. In addition to flexibility, availability in a very wide range of sizes is a standout feature of these oil-resistant products. The FPM chemical hose - Standard-Flexible 75, for example, is available in 50 sizes between 1 and 25 mm internal diameter.

The FPM chemical hose – glass fibre braid was designed for applications requiring high pressure and temperature resistance. With a design comprising an FPM inner layer and glass fibre braiding, it can withstand temperatures from -20 to +200 °C, and short-term up to +300 °C.

The FPM double-jacket chemical hose consists of an FPM inner tube and an outer cover made of chloroprene rubber. The double-jacket design makes it highly durable and abrasion-resistant. This stable double-jacket model is characterized by very good chemical resistance as well as good ozone, ageing and weather resistance. Available in six different diameters from 6 to 19 mm, it is used in the chemical industry, pharmaceutical industry, mineral oil industry and process engineering. Pressures up to a maximum of 10 bar and temperatures from -20 to +120 °C are tolerated by the oil-resistant mineral oil hose without issue thanks to a polyester fabric reinforcement that stabilizes the body.

Fluoroelastomer Hoses for Pump Applications

The FPM pump hose - imperial is made from a high-quality “Masterflex formulation” with the highest fluorine content. This special compound ensures improved chemical resistance. Chemical resistance is provided against solvents, oils, aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons. Very high gas tightness should be mentioned here. Shore hardness A is 64° (in accordance with DIN 53505) and the permissible operating temperature is between -20 °C and +200 °C, short-term also up to +250 °C.

The FPM hose – steel wire braided is an exceptionally robust fluorine tube due to the external steel wire layer. This model is used in the chemical industry, pharmaceutical industry, mineral oil industry and process engineering for transporting liquid media. Elevated temperatures (-25 to +180 °C) can also be applied, as often occur in technical applications. Upon request, the products can be supplied fully assembled with metal fittings to facilitate installation. It is available from stock in internal diameters from 6 to 20 mm.

PUR Hoses in the Mineral Oil Sector

From the extensive range of polyurethane tubing, some models are particularly suitable for use with mineral oils. From the more than 35 PUR tubes in the range, the following are especially suitable for this application:

Chemical Hoses Made of Polyurethane

The PUR chemical and pressure hose withstands maximum operating pressures of up to 10 bar. Its application range includes flexible compressed air supply to pneumatic tools and assembly lines, pneumatics, automation, automotive industry, measurement and control technology, chemical engineering, apparatus engineering and mechanical engineering, as well as conveying mineral oil products. Both the very good kink resistance and high elasticity speak in favour of this product. With this performance portfolio, the oil-resistant mineral oil hose is very versatile in use.

The PUR chemical and industrial hose - High-Flexible is a further development with a focus on high flexibility and durability. This oil-resistant model is also used in process and chemical engineering, measurement and control technology and mechanical engineering. Special attention has been paid to cold applications so that cold flexibility is maintained even around -40 °C. Brittleness at these temperatures is also not observed. Exceptional toughness is reflected in the remarkable elongation at break (DIN 53504-S2), which was measured at 910%. This observation is also reflected in the maximum operating pressures: depending on the internal diameter selected, maximum operating pressures of 6 to 23 bar are possible.

Instead of using two hydraulic lines in parallel, the use of a lumen tube – also referred to as a twin hose – is an option. The oil-resistant PUR spiral double-lumen chemical hose is characterized by excellent elastic properties and maximum flexibility, including at low temperatures (-40 °C). With a Shore hardness A of 85° (in accordance with DIN 53505), it is extremely tear-resistant and prepared for harsh environments. This specialized product is resistant not only to impacts, crushing and abrasion, but also to weathering and ozone. It is calibrated to CETOP standard and resistant to a wide range of chemicals, for example petrol, cyclohexane, diesel oil, isooctane, kerosene and aqueous salt solutions. The operating temperature is specified as -40 °C to +80 °C. Short-term exposure up to +120 °C is also possible for the oil-resistant variant without damage.

The PUR lumen hoses - 2 lumens, calibrated are characterized by maximum elasticity, including at temperatures down to -40 °C. Very small bending radii are ensured, as is high kink resistance. The material is resistant to petrol, cyclohexane, diesel oil, isopropanol and kerosene. Shore hardness A is 98° in accordance with DIN 53505. The application temperature should be between -35 °C and +60 °C. Short-term exposure up to +80 °C can also be tolerated. The operating pressure of the calibrated oil-resistant model is, depending on the size, 6 to 18 bar (at +20 °C). The alternatives with 3 and 4 lumens, the PUR lumen chemical hose - 3 lumens, calibrated and the PUR lumen chemical hose - 4 lumens, calibrated, show similar mechanical and chemical properties and are suitable for the same applications as the 2-lumen model. The variants with multiple lumens are available from stock in standard lengths of 5 or 15 m.

The PUR chemical and pneumatic hose – conductive is also excellent as an oil-resistant mineral oil hose. Customers primarily use this mineral oil hose in engine construction, mechanical engineering, measurement and control technology and vacuum technology. It is particularly used where avoiding electrostatic charging is essential. Suitability for use in explosion-protected areas in accordance with Directive 94/9/EC (ATEX) is provided. The surface has been treated so that a resistance of <106 Ohm is achieved. The oil-resistant material shows good chemical resistance to petrol, cyclohexane, diesel oil, isooctane and kerosene. To enable connectivity via push-in fittings, the outer diameter of the oil-resistant chemical hose is calibrated.

Other Hose Products Made of Polyurethane

The PUR fuel and lubricant hose is a thick-walled, flexible-elastic mineral oil hose used primarily for conveying oils, liquid fuels and lubricants in laboratory, pilot plant and industrial systems. Due to the thick walls, it is extremely abrasion- and tear-resistant. The material is also ageing- and weather-resistant under weather exposure. Chemically resistant to petrols, bitumen, kerosene, aliphatic hydrocarbons, mineral oils and lubricants, and short-term also to aromatic hydrocarbons, this oil-resistant model is suitable in a temperature range from -40 to +79 °C, short-term also +93 °C. Use with halogenated solvents, water and aqueous solutions must be avoided. The yellow-coloured mineral oil hose complies with the requirements of FDA 21 CFR §177.1680 and §177.2600.

The PUR/LDPE double-jacket high-pressure hose and the twin hose variant are high-pressure hydraulic hoses for fire-resistant hydraulic fluids based on phosphate esters, liquids based on mineral oil and glycol, mineral lubricants, coolants as well as water up to +70 °C. Constructed from polyurethane (inner tube), a synthetic fibre braid and a robust LDPE outer layer, they offer high mechanical strength combined with excellent wear resistance. When used between -54 and +100 °C, maximum operating pressures of up to 207 bar can be applied.

Transparent Hose Materials for Mineral Oil: TYGON® and PVC

PVC is now one of the most important plastics and is incredibly versatile in its uses. This is demonstrated by the range of PVC hoses with more than 50 models. The favourable economics of PVC production and many possibilities for targeted influence during synthesis on its physical-chemical properties have strongly promoted the development of application fields for this plastic. Depending on the synthesis conditions, a wide variety of PVC grades can be produced, for example PVC-U (rigid PVC) or PVC-P (flexible PVC).

The PVC micro pump hose for fuels was designed for precise dosing of reagents in micro analytics and micro process control. Starting from an internal diameter of 0.13 mm, this mineral oil hose is a good choice for very fine pumping performance. The PVC micro pump hose for fuels is manufactured using a polyvinyl formulation developed specifically for this purpose. Production complies with the requirements of the US Federal Standard 209 B, air cleanliness class 10000. This allows many media to be conveyed without issue. The result is high extraction and swelling resistance to fuels. It is yellow-coloured to avoid confusion with other hoses and can be used safely between -32 and +60 °C. The material proves to be almost inert towards oxygen and ozone, like many PVC hoses.

A bendable and durable, oil-resistant material, ageing-resistant, abrasion-resistant, robust and pressure-resistant is used to produce the PVC petrol and oil hose. It is resistant at +20 °C to mineral oils, fats, petrol, diesel fuel and other aliphatic hydrocarbon compounds, also ethanol. With a Shore hardness A of 76° (in accordance with DIN 53505), the mineral oil and diesel hose is mechanically resilient and at the same time flexible and bendable. This product is available in 13 sizes from 2 to 24 mm internal diameter.

Micro hoses made of TYGON® for peristaltic pumps are available in three forms: as a TYGON® pump hose with 2 stoppers, as a TYGON® pump hose with 2 stoppers for fuels and lubricants, and as a TYGON® pump hose with 3 stoppers. For all variants, the stopper distance is 152 mm as standard. They are all highly resistant to acids and alkalis in the pH range from 1 to 10. They can also be autoclaved at +121 °C and are therefore reusable in many areas. The TYGON® pump hose with 2 stoppers for fuels and lubricants has been additionally hardened against hydrocarbons such as petrol, oils and kerosenes. For better differentiation from the other two models, it is yellow-coloured, as is common for most fuel hoses.

A specialized hose for fuels and lubricants, for leaded or unleaded petrol (with or without additives such as boron, tricresyl phosphate or manganese) is the TYGON® fuel and lubricant hose. It is also suitable for kerosene, heating oil, cutting fluids and glycol-based coolants. It is not suitable for strong alkalis and acids as well as foodstuffs, beverages and pharmaceuticals. This oil-resistant mineral oil hose has a long service life because it neither ages nor oxidizes and is less permeable than rubber because the material is denser. The smooth, polished inner wall reduces the deposition of suspended solids. Translucent, soft and flexible (Shore hardness A: 57° in accordance with ASTM D2240), this mineral oil hose can also be installed easily in confined areas provided the temperature range from -10 to +74 °C is maintained.

Top-Class Chemical Stability: PTFE Hoses

Highly fluorinated polytetrafluoroethylene is almost universally chemically resistant. The mechanical properties of this material are also impressive. Flexibility and temperature resistance are very good. Especially when transporting aqueous media, the strong hydrophobicity of PTFE is an interesting feature. PTFE hoses are available in various designs.

PTFE Hoses and Mineral Oil Products

For applications with maximum operating pressures up to 265 bar, there is no alternative to the PTFE high-pressure hose. The version with reinforced wall thickness can even withstand up to 300 bar maximum operating pressure. This model consists of an FDA-compliant PTFE inner hose and a stainless steel braid (AISI 304/305). As standard, it is supplied without connections. Customization to customer requirements is, however, possible. This mineral oil hose can be used both at room temperature and at elevated temperature ranges (-60 to +260 °C). There is, however, a limitation for high-pressure gases above 130 bar. The inner material provides maximum gas tightness while retaining all other advantages such as temperature resistance, chemical resistance and surface properties.

A true all-rounder among oil-resistant mineral oil hoses is the PTFE chemical hose – standard. It is used in many applications, including chemical process engineering, microelectronics, analytical technology, process engineering, food technology, battery technology and medical technology. This chemical hose is repeatedly used particularly for conveying aggressive liquid chemicals (acids, alkalis, salt solutions and solvents), including at elevated temperatures (-200 to +260 °C, short-term +280 °C). A specific field of application is HPLC technology. Here, in addition to the properties already mentioned, excellent impact strength, pressure resistance and flexibility are key. The proven absence of plasticizers, latex and silicone is, of course, just as decisive an argument for this model as the very high gas tightness. RCT offers this product in a generous selection of sizes from 0.3 to 50 mm internal diameter.

Corrugated Tubes Made of Polytetrafluoroethylene

Reichelt Chemietechnik offers five corrugated tubes made of PTFE: the standard PTFE corrugated tube, the PTFE corrugated tube with smooth inner wall, the PTFE corrugated tube with smooth ends, a PTFE corrugated hose with jacket and the PTFE Antista corrugated tube. All models are made entirely of PTFE. However, there are important differences between the designs.

The standard PTFE corrugated tube is a universally applicable mineral oil hose for microelectronics, pharmaceutical industry, semiconductor technology, food industry, chemical industry and biotechnology. The material is inert towards almost all organic and inorganic liquids and gases, free of plasticizers, latex and silicone. The wide temperature range from -65 to +260 °C as well as high ageing resistance and availability in ten different internal diameters make this model very popular with users.

The PTFE corrugated tube with smooth inner wall was designed for transporting ultra-pure media. Here, the inside of the corrugated tube has been treated to create an even smoother and more inert surface without the typical corrugated inner profile. For this design, suitable PVDF fittings with male threads can be used to connect the corrugated hose to existing systems. The mineral oil hose is FDA-compliant, ADI-free, phthalate-free and therefore physiologically harmless.

The PTFE corrugated tube with jacket is used in the pharmaceutical industry, food industry and petrochemicals. Due to the helically corrugated PTFE inner tube, the oil-resistant mineral oil hose achieves very high flexibility, which is reflected in very small bending radii of at least 40 mm. The PTFE material is resistant to inorganic and organic media and is anti-adhesive. In addition, the inner tube meets the requirements of the FDA. The EPDM outer cover is abrasion-resistant, electrically conductive and flame-retardant. Resistance to UV and ozone is also provided. A high-temperature-resistant aramid braid serves as the pressure carrier. Use in a temperature range between -20 °C and +150 °C is possible without issue.

The PTFE Antista corrugated tube consists of a special fluoropolymer compound developed for electrostatic control in semiconductor technology. The material is filled (alloyed) with 25% carbon powder, reducing the discharge resistance to <106 Ohm/m. Due to the material modification, the chemical resistance of virgin PTFE is slightly reduced. A preliminary test should be carried out for particularly critical media. Temperatures between -200 °C and +260 °C are not a problem for this mineral oil hose.

Other Materials and Mineral Oil Hoses

The PP tubing – calibrated is a rigid plastic hose used by customers in process chemistry, process technology, water treatment, heat exchangers, protective and insulating lines. The tolerance of the outer diameter of the five available sizes is ±0.10 mm. With a maximum operating pressure of up to 33 bar, pressure applications can also be operated with this calibrated oil-resistant mineral oil hose. In addition to good chemical resistance, certification in accordance with FDA 21 CFR 177.1520 and thus food suitability is provided. Shore hardness D is 72° (DIN 53505) and the temperature range is between -25 and +90 °C, short-term also +120 °C. Polypropylene is characterized by good chemical resistance and is mechanically robust.

The PEEK high-pressure capillary hose - solid colour is pressure-stable up to 420 bar depending on the size (internal diameter 0.13 mm). It is also physiologically completely harmless and biocompatible. This makes it possible to use this mineral oil hose in bioanalytics and HPLC. The capillary hose is stable in the temperature range from -40 to +250 °C and can also be used short-term up to +300 °C without negative effects. The PEEK tubes with the same properties are also available with different marking on the outer surface: PEEK high-pressure capillary hose - striped.

For transporting mineral oil products, RCT also recommends the oil-resistant HDPE chemical hose and the HDPE chemical hose - calibrated. Both models are frequently used in apparatus engineering, process engineering, gas technology and chemical engineering. Good mechanical strength and high elongation at break as well as toughness are also advantages here. Polyethylene, like polypropylene, belongs to the polyolefins. PE tubes have similar properties to oil-resistant PP tubing. In black colouring, the modified HDPE is also UV-stable and is preferred at locations exposed to sunlight. The calibrated version is manufactured and certified in accordance with FDA 21 CFR §177.1520 requirements.
