In principle, most chemical tubing made of EPDM is resistant to acids and alkalis and is therefore defined as acid hoses and alkali hoses.
Furthermore, EPDM variants generally cover a temperature range from -35 °C to +120 °C, although gradual deviations are possible. For EPDM chemical tubing used as acid hoses and alkali hoses, a Shore hardness of A 65° to 70° applies in accordance with DIN 53505 for types without reinforcement, which are classified as laboratory, rubber and pump tubing.

It should be noted that this steam tubing is specifically suitable for food technology, in particular for the soft drink industry and dairy processing.
Double-jacket hoses – compressed air and brake hoses
EPDM pressure tubing in double-jacket designs is also available as compressed air lines, brake lines and beverage lines and is considered resistant to acids and alkalis. The compressed air and brake tubing as double-jacket hoses is used for flexible connections, for example to trailers. As reinforcement and for stabilisation, it contains textile braids made of PVAA. Beverage tubing in double-jacket designs is used for conveying fat-free foods, fruit juices, mineral water, alcoholic beverages and dairy products, and is also suitable as acid and alkali hoses. The maximum working pressure of these acid-resistant and alkali-resistant types is 12 bar at +20 °C.
Paint spray hoses for coatings and chemicals
For conveying spirit varnishes, nitrocellulose lacquers, acrylic lacquers, epoxy coatings as well as PUR coatings, and for conveying aromatics, ketones and esters, RCT offers EPDM paint spray tubing, which can also be used as acid and alkali hoses. These types are flexible and meet pressure class PN 10.
High-Pressure Hoses for Extreme Loads
High-pressure tubing in double-jacket designs is manufactured with one or two steel wire braids, which is reflected in their respective pressure ratings. EPDM high-pressure hoses with one steel braid are designed for pressures up to a maximum of 210 bar, while double-jacket types with two steel wire braids can be rated for pressures up to 350 bar.
Industrial and Cooling Water Hoses
EPDM industrial hoses used as acid and alkali hoses are available with internal diameters from 8 mm to 19 mm, with an operating pressure of 10 bar applicable to all types. If sheathed with glass fabric, a maximum pressure load of 20 bar at +20 °C applies. In addition, RCT offers cooling water hoses made of EPDM, which are also resistant to acids and alkalis and are available in dimensions (I.D.) from 10 to 32 mm, with a pressure rating of 4 bar at +20 °C for all types. Heat exchanger tubing and profile tubing are classified as laboratory tubing or heat exchange lines for heating and cooling reaction flasks or beakers, as well as for heat exchange on chromatography columns. They are available with sole widths from 9.5 to 30 mm.
Acid Hoses and Alkali Hoses Made of High-Performance Plastics
The group of acid and alkali hoses also includes variants made of EPDM/PP as well as Santoprene®, THOMAPRENE®, Norprene® and PharmMed®, used as rubber tubing, laboratory hoses, pump, pharmaceutical, chemical and high-performance tubing.
These variants are characterised by maximum abrasion resistance and chemical resistance. They are fully resistant to acids and alkalis and are therefore qualified as acid and alkali hoses. They can be welded and bonded and feature extremely low gas permeability, meaning they are nearly gas-tight. They are autoclavable at +136 °C and comply with the regulations of the European Pharmacopoeia. They are therefore FDA-compliant and BfR-compliant and also meet the requirements of DAB 10.

- EPDM/PP high-performance pressure and chemical tubing with a Shore hardness of A 73° in accordance with DIN 53505 and equipped with a polyester braid as pressure reinforcement. The working pressure at +20 °C is 17 bar.
- EPDM/PP high-performance micro pump variants as well as high-performance pump and chemical types developed for continuous operation in peristaltic applications. These are highly abrasion-resistant and guarantee a service life 30 times longer than comparable silicone alternatives.
