Glass silk hoses for electrical insulation and heat protection
With more than 40 years of experience in hose technology, Reichelt Chemietechnik is your partner for protective and insulating hoses of all kinds. Among our wide range are glass silk tubing, used both as electrically insulation hoses and as heat protection hoses.
What are glass silk hoses?
Glass silk tubing is made of a fine glass fiber braid, either coated with a silicone jacket or impregnated with ceramic. They are extremely flexible, thermally resistant to very high temperatures, and electrically insulating. These expandable protective tubes are pulled over the components or cables that need shielding.
Our product range includes two versions, each covering different temperature ranges and applications:
- Heat protection hoses made of glass silk, ceramic impregnated
- Insulation hoses made of glass silk braid with silicone rubber coating
Glass silk hoses – fine-structured high-temperature specialists
Glass silk hoses combine the outstanding thermal properties of glass fibers with a particularly fine textile structure. Compared to conventional glass fabric tubing, they feature a much finer weave made of high-quality glass silk yarns. This construction provides an exceptionally smooth surface while ensuring excellent temperature resistance up to 450 °C. Their flexible yet robust structure makes them ideal protective tubing for sensitive applications.
Typical applications include:
- In electrical engineering as high-quality cable protection for sensitive wires
- In equipment and device construction to protect sensors and measuring lines
- In medical technology for temperature-stressed areas
- As insulation tubing in heating and air-conditioning technology
- In automotive engineering for protecting wiring harnesses in hot zones
- In the manufacture of precision instruments
- In aerospace technology for specialized insulation tasks
The combination of temperature resistance, fine surface structure, and flexibility makes glass silk tubing the first choice for applications requiring both high thermal performance and premium workmanship.
Which protective hose design is right for your application can be determined from the information below.
Glass silk hose heat-resistant – ceramic impregnated
The ceramic-impregnated version of the glass silk hose is designed for extreme thermal loads. The black heat protection hose with its temperature-resistant, fully covering braid can be used in the range of -30 °C to +450 °C. It serves as both heat and contact protection and, thanks to its high expandability, can easily be pulled over components. Available in nominal sizes from 16 mm to 45 mm, the inner diameter can be expanded up to 60 mm. Flexibility and stretchability are maintained even at very high or very low temperatures.
Glass silk hose with silicone jacket
The self-extinguishing black glass silk tube with silicone rubber coating is thermally stable from -30 °C to +180 °C, and up to +200 °C for short periods. It offers extremely high dielectric strength of 2.5 kV (insulation class H) and meets flammability class UL 94 V-0. Its high thermal stability, chemical resistance, and electrical insulation properties make this silicone-coated glass silk braid tube the ideal electrical insulation solution for many applications. A notable feature is the vitrification effect under overheating: it does not melt and produces no toxic gases or residues. Available in nominal sizes from 3 mm to 8 mm, it is very flexible and elastic due to its thin wall thickness.
Glass silk hose as a safety hose
Both designs are considered insulation and safety hoses. The ceramic-impregnated version is preferable for thermal resistance, while the silicone-coated tubing is primarily used for electrical insulation.
Glass silk hose and heat
The heat-resistant glass silk hose with silicone coating sets new standards in high-temperature applications. While conventional glass silk hoses already provide excellent heat resistance, the silicone coating adds further protection and enhances flexibility. This type of tubing performs especially well in environments that demand not only resistance to high temperatures but also a certain degree of material pliability. The innovative combination of glass silk hose and silicone coating enables use at elevated temperatures while improving handling and protection against external influences.
