They are resistant to fuels, mineral oils, animal and vegetable oils, aliphatic hydrocarbons and silicones, as well as to dilute acids and alkalis. In aromatic and chlorinated hydrocarbons, however, NBR tends to swell, and it is not resistant to oxidising acids such as nitric acid or peracetic acid.
A key advantage of O-rings with this Shore A hardness over other seal designs is that the ring is compact, self-acting and double-acting.
