Straight Pipe Connector made of Aluminium
Product specification
Straight, pipe / tube connection on both sides for pipes and tubes made of metals and plastics.
Utilizing an additional aluminium stiffener sleeve allows adapting polymer pipes and tubes with a wall thickness of 1.0 mm or 1.5 mm.
See "General Information" for technical specifications and installation instructions.
General Information RCT®-TRS-2
THOMAFLUID®-Straight Screw Connectors Type RCT®-TRS-2 made of aluminium are used for connecting metal pipes, hard polymer pipes and hoses. The connection is realized by a compression ferrule and a union nut. No stiffener sleeve is integrated. For plastic pipes and hoses with a wall thickness of 1.0 mm or 1.5 mm, an additional aluminium stiffener sleeve should be used which can be ordered separately. The connectors are compatible with a wide range of materials, e.g. aluminium, copper, brass, PTFE, PVDF, FEP, PFA, PA, PE or PUR. The pipe connectors are used in a variety of application areas, e.g. laboratory technology, chemical technology, process technology, biotechnology, pharmaceutical technology and construction technology.
Installation
When tightening the union screw nut, the compression ferrule is deformed by the inside taper of the nut, necking the tube slightly without notching it. The V-shape of the compression ferrule causes a secondary necking point, resulting in a double fixture. The tube is held in place securely without being damaged.
Dimensionally stable hoses and pipes with a clean, smooth surface and circular cross-section must be used, with an outside diameter tolerance of ± 0.1 mm. The tubes must be carefully cut to length and deburred. The part that is connected to the fitting cannot show any signs of damage or deformation; it also must be ensured that the tube end is at least 1.5 times as long as the outer diameter of the tube. The connection is initially lubricated; the (repeated) assembly of larger fittings can be optimised using suitable lubricants. For plastic pipes, an aluminium stiffener sleeve should be inserted.
Assembly: The tube, cut squarely to length, is inserted into the union up to the stop. The union nut is screwed on by hand until a perceptible stop. Tighten down the union nut approximately 1 and 3/4 rotations using an open-ended spanner whilst pushing the tube against the fitting. Hold the fitting with a second wrench. Making a mark on both the fitting and the nut can assist in keeping track of the number of rotations. The pipe connection seals purely metallically. Therefore, the sealing surfaces must not be damaged.
Disassembly & reassembly: When reassembling, all parts should be lubricated again. Screw the nut back on by hand until a perceptible stop and tighten down the union nut with an open-ended spanner by 1/4 rotation for the final fit. By following this procedure, the joint becomes leak-proof again.
After initial assembly, the compression ferrule can remain rotatable on the tube in the disassembled state or the tube can remain rotatable in the union nut in the disassembled state. However, this has no influence on the quality of the connection.
The fittings are compatible with concentric tubes and hoses with a clean, smooth surface and an outside diameter tolerance of ± 0.1 mm.
Technical Specifications
Aluminium fittings for Tube-Outer-Ø 8.0 mm to 22.0 mm consist of colourless anodised union body (without stiffener sleeve), blue anodised union nut and coated compression ferrule.
Lightweight material aluminium: only around one third of the specific weight of stainless steel, brass or copper. Initially lubricated and easy to install. Good corrosion and weather resistance.
Fittings for Tube-Outer-Ø 22,0 mm contain a compression ferrule with an integrated FKM O-ring (operating temperature range: -20 to +120 °C).
Material: Aluminium EN AW-6082, 3.2315
Union nut: blue anodised
Compression ferrule: coated
Union body: colourless anodised
Temperature range: -196 to +120 °C
Max. operating pressure: up to 100 bar (depends on dimensions, see product tables, safety factor of 4)
