Fuel-, mineral oil- and water-resistant adhesive bonding of metals, ceramics and plastics.
Modified, room-temperature-curing, two-component epoxy resin adhesive for mechanical and electrical loads, consisting of viscous, opaque, bisphenol-based resin component AW 106 and light yellow, polyamide-based hardener HV 953 U. Adhesive components are available in 1,000 g containers, hardener in 800 g containers.
Adhesive components and hardener are carefully blended in equal parts by volume (equivalent to 100 parts by weight of binder and 80 parts by weight of hardener). The surfaces to be bonded should be cleaned with a good degreasing agent such as acetone. Alcohol, gasoline (petrol) or paint thinners should never be used. Additional mechanical roughening followed by a second degreasing treatment of the surfaces improves the bonding strength considerably.
The homogeneously mixed adhesive is applied with a spatula in a thin layer to both adhesive surfaces. The joint components should be assembled and clamped as soon as the adhesive has been applied. An even contact pressure throughout the joint area will ensure optimum cure.
A layer of adhesive 0.05 to 0.1 mm thick will normally impart the greatest lap shear strength to the joint.
