Hoses for fuel gases, liquefied gases and oxygen (DIN EN ISO 3821:2010)

The conduction of welding gases, fuel gases, liquefied gases and oxygen requires special hoses which meet the DIN standard EN ISO 3821 (formerly EN 559). The colour-coded safety feed hoses for gases and liquefied gases, which are mainly used in welding technology, are also known as "oxyfuel hoses" and "welding hoses".

Benefit from our expertise as a specialist in hosessemi-finished products as well as many other plastic components and choose from our selected range of high-quality fuel gas and liquefied gas hoses available at short notice.

Safety through colour coding

Delivery hoses for fuel gases and liquefied gases are available in different colours depending on the gas to be conducted. This prevents mixing up the gas lines in use.

Fuel gas hoses and liquefied gas hoses are colour-coded as follows:

  • The red colour indicates gas hoses for acetylene and other fuel gases. Excluded from this are liquefied gases, LPG, MPS, natural gas and methane.
  • Blue-coloured hoses are suitable for oxygen.
  • Non-flammable gases are conducted in black welding hoses. They are suitable for compressed air and welding shielding gases such as nitrogen (N2), Argon (Ar) and carbon dioxide (CO2).
  • Liquefied gases such as LPG, propane and butane are conveyed in orange-coloured pressure hoses.

In addition, the conformity to the relevant DIN standard "EN ISO 3821:2010" (formerly EN 559:2003) is marked using a hose imprint. The imprint usually also contains an indication of the maximum permissible operating pressure.

The right hose design for your application

Depending on the gas to be conducted – whether it's liquefied gas (propane, butane or LPG), oxygen, fuel gas (acetylene) or inert gas (nitrogen, argon, carbon dioxide) – you can choose from the following hose designs.

Oxyfuel welding hoses

Robust gas hoses include oxygen hoses as well as fuel gas hoses and are mainly used for welding applications. The inner core of the double-jacket hose consists of an SBR/EPDM compound (styrene-butadiene rubber/ethylene-propylene-diene rubber) and the outer jacket is made of EPDM. This enables operating pressures of up to 20 bar at +20°C and operating temperatures of -30°C to +80°C. The rubber hoses comply with DIN EN ISO 3821 (DIN EN 559) and are colour-coded: The outer jacket is coloured depending on the gas to be conducted, either red for flammable gases or blue for oxygen.

Oxyfuel twin welding hoses

The twin hose version combines a red hose line (flammable gases) with a blue line (oxygen). The two-layer twin welding hose consists of an EPDM inner core and an additional EPDM outer jacket. The permissible working temperature, as with the single-lumen version, is specified as -30°C to +80°C; the compressive strength is also 20 bar at +20°C. Conformity to the DIN standard EN ISO 3821:2010 is given.

Liquefied gas hoses for propane and butane

The orange liquefied gas hoses are referred to as propane hosesbutane hoses and LPG hoses. In contrast to the red oxyfuel hoses, they are suitable for liquefied gases. This double-jacketed hose version with an inner core made of NBR (acrylonitrile butadiene rubber) and an EPDM outer cover achieves a maximum working pressure of 20 bar +20°C. DIN EN ISO 3821 (DIN EN 559) conformity is also given here and is permissable in a working temperature range of -30°C to +80°C, as was previously the case with fuel gas hoses.

Oxyfuel hoses for gases

Oxyfuel gas hoses in three different colours are also available for welding and cutting processes. Gas lines for flammable gases are marked with the red colouration, oxygen pipes are marked with the blue colouration - both versions have the outer cover made of the material EPDM in common. For the welding shielding gases nitrogen, argon and carbon dioxide as well as for compressed air, black-coloured hose types with an outer jacket made of SBR/EPDM are available. However, the fuel gas hoses differ not only in the external colouring, because the material of the inner core also depends on the medium to be conducted. EPDM is used for fuel gases (red), SBR/EPDM is used for oxygen (blue) and SBR/NR is used for protective gases (black). The pressure load capacity of the fuel gas hoses is 20 bar for all versions; the temperature load capacity is -30°C to +80°C. Of course, this hose variant is also DIN EN ISO 3821 or DIN EN 559 compliant.

Fuel gas hoses for propane and butane according to DVGW

As a new product for the conveying of propane and butane, for example for propane gas burners, RCT offers a robust special hose according to EN 16436-1 DVGW (DIN 4815). The orange burner hose - made up of an NBR inner core and an outer sheath made of SBR/NBR – can be used in the temperature range from -30°C to +70°C. Thanks to the knurled textile insert, the fuel gas hose is extremely pressure-resistant with a burst pressure of 30 bar at +20°C. In addition, its abrasion resistance, weather resistance and ozone resistance should be highlighted. The liquefied gas hose is available in nominal widths of 6.4 mm and 9.0 mm.
