Luer-Lock Adapters are presented as Luer-Lock hose adapters/Luer-Lock tube adapters (male/female, as well as female/female/female and female/male/male)

These adapters, also referred to as Luer-Lock connectors, are manufactured by RCT using various plastics.

The program includes Luer-Lock Adapters made of PP (Polypropylene), PVDF (Polyvinylidene fluoride), PFA (Perfluoroalkoxy), as well as PA 6.6 (Polyamide 6.6) and PC (Polycarbonate). The different materials vary in their chemical resistance and operating temperatures/work temperatures.

Luer-Lock Adapters are connectors offered in different specifications, distinguishing between male or female connections, as well as female/female, female/female/female, and female/male/male configurations. Additionally, Luer-Lock Adapters are available as Luer-Lock hose adapters, adaptable with either soft or hard hoses, and come in connection sizes of 1/16", 3/32", 1/8", 5/32", and 3 1/6".

In addition to the group of Luer-Lock Adapters, RCT also provides Luer-Lock tube adapters in male and female configurations. These tube adapters are suitable for hoses with A.D. 0.7 mm, 1 mm, 1.6 mm, 2 mm, 2.4 mm, 2.5 mm, and 3 mm.

Chemical resistance

of the Luer-Lock Adapters from which the Luer connectors are manufactured. These include:

PA 6.6 (Polyamide 6.6/Nylon)

PA 6.6 is resistant to lubricants, oils, gasoline, aliphatic hydrocarbons, alcohols, ketones, as well as cyclic hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons, trichlorethylene, and perchlorethylene. PA 6.6 is conditionally resistant to ammonia and amines.

PP (Polypropylene/Hostalen® PP)

is resistant to lubricants, gasoline, aliphatic hydrocarbons, alcohols, ketones, organic acids, mineral acids, hydrogen peroxide, as well as alkaline solutions, ammonia, and amines.

PC (Polycarbonate/Makrolon®)

is a plastic that is resistant to ethylene oxide, formaldehyde solutions, and hot water. Makrolon is conditionally resistant to methanol and ethanol (96%), as well as higher alcohols, gasoline, other aliphatic hydrocarbons, diluted mineral acids, and UV radiation.

PVDF (Polyvinylidene fluoride/Kynar®/Solef®)

PVDF demonstrates resilience to benzene, other aliphatic hydrocarbons, halogenated solvents, ammonia solutions, aliphatic amines, aniline, mineral acids, as well as organic acids, hydrogen peroxide, hot water, and UV radiation. PVDF is conditionally resistant to benzene, xylene, other aromatic hydrocarbons, as well as phenols.

PFA (Perfluoroalkoxy/Chemfluor®)

PFA, as a fluoropolymer, shows resilience to benzene and other aliphatic hydrocarbons, benzene, xylene, and other aromatic hydrocarbons, phenols, halogenated solvents, esters, ketones, sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, ammonia solutions, aliphatic amines, aniline, pyridine, and other aromatic amines, organic acids, hot water, and UV radiation. PFA is absolutely resistant to alkali metals; they are decomposed.

Temperature resistance/work temperature of Luer-Lock Adapters made from plastics

PP (Polypropylene) Temperature range: -5 °C to +90 °C

PVDF (Polyvinylidene fluoride) Temperature range: -30 °C to +150 °C, short-term +160 °C

PFA (Perfluoroalkoxy) Temperature range: -200 °C to +260 °C, short-term +280 °C

PA 6.6 (Polyamide 6.6) Temperature range: -40 °C to +100 °C, short-term +200 °C

PC (Polycarbonate) Temperature range: -100 °C to +110 °C, short-term +135 °C

Material properties of Luer-Lock Adapters

PA 6.6 (Polyamide 6.6)

PA 6.6 is a technical plastic with good chemical resilience to fuels, oils, and fats, as well as hydraulic fluids; it is highly temperature-resistant, with the highest abrasion resistance and high wear resistance; its impact strength is remarkable, as well as its ability to absorb small amounts of liquids.

PP (Polypropylene)

The material is characterized by high material strength, making it suitable for highly stressed sliding elements such as rollers and pump components, as well as in apparatus construction and chemical engineering; as a technical plastic, it exhibits excellent temperature properties and therefore good temperature resistance; at the same time, the plastic has high hydrolysis resistance.

PC (Polycarbonate)

PC is a colorless material used in the production of precision parts in precision engineering; Makrolon is mechanically strong and highly impact-resistant, even at low temperatures; its temperature resistance is remarkably high, both in the negative and positive range. As a construction material, its high dimensional stability is appreciated, and the material is flame-resistant; it is attributed with good electrically insulating properties.

PVDF (Polyvinylidene fluoride)

PVDF, a fluoropolymer, is successfully used in the pharmaceutical industry and the food industry, as well as in chemical engineering and apparatus construction; its excellent hydrolysis resistance is noteworthy, as well as its good temperature resistance and high impact resistance, even at low temperatures; its high mechanical strength, material stiffness, and creep resistance are particularly pronounced, making it absolutely superior to other fluoropolymers.

PFA (Perfluoroalkoxy)

PFA stands out for its high thermal, chemical, and mechanical stability; PFA is free from extractable components and can be classified as food-safe; its chemical resistance is comprehensive, comparable to PTFE; its surface is non-adhesive; the material is thermoplastically processable and therefore weldable.
